Cape Town Cycle Tour podium for Hoffmann
With the favourites tag firmly pinned on the Team Telkom boys’ backs, the task was always going to be monumental to control the onslaught from the other contenders for the Cape Town Cycle Tour crown.
Realising early that most teams wanted to split the field and isolate Telkom speedster, Hoffmann, the team took to the task of controlling the race, placing the blue train on the front of the bunch. The two Van Niekerks and Maree drove the train for most of the race.
Into the final 15km Hoffmann was left with Rabie and Kruger as the other teams launched attack after attack, Team Dimension Data being the most active. Team Roadcover threw some weight in the chase to assist Team Telkom and into the final kilometer came down to a small bunch sprint.
In a perfectly timed effort it was Roadcover’s Clint Hendricks who took the win from Jayde Julius (Dimension Data) and Nolan Hoffmann (team Telkom) coming home for third.
