Young gun, Morne van Niekerk, steamrolls the field at the Mbombela Criterium
Sunday saw the last event in the week long festival of cycling in Mpumalanga when the Pro’s took to the streets in a criterium circuit dash for cash race near the Mbombela Stadium.
The fast paced elimination format saw aggressive racing from the get go as the last two riders on each lap would be taken off the circuit.
Team Telkom’s Morne van Niekerk used his team’s efforts as a launchpad to jump clear of the field. Lights by Linea’s Stefan Ihlenfeldt and Roadcover’s Gustav Basson fought hard to bring him back in the fold, but the ever present Nolan Hoffman kept them company as policeman for Morne.
The youngster stayed clear to open the 2016 account for Team Telkom!
